Assembly

I just wrote two paragraphs and my laptop restarted so now I got to write all over again. Ugh. Anyhow, so the assembly was great!! St. Louis did not just have humor but also was an excellent poet, smart and an intelligent man. What he said reminded me a lot of one of Buddha's saying, "what you think, you become", i was like YES that is absolutely right. I think we even wrote a blog about it. What I found really interesting was that he made up poems on the spot, I couldn't believe it, like how can someone just make something up right on the spot without thinking about it. Also Vanessa did a great job making a poem about the topic door, I realized how talented she was because If I was there, I'd probably refuse to do such a thing front of a big audience. I guess he was right about how people are sometimes afraid to be themselves or to say something because of other people's judgment. When I first came to Canada, I wouldn't ever say anything or participate because I was scared to say something stupid. However, as i grew up and got to know the people around me more, I am less shy. So I guess the message was never be afraid to give out your opinion or talent even if you think it's not the best, because as he said "practice makes things better, not perfect but better". Overall the assembly was great, it all gave us a chance to think about our everyday behavior such as making up excuses and how to overcome those to become successful in life.

P.S: My comment on metro news is published :D

Twilight

I was never obsessed with a movie until I watched twilight. I actually watched it twice this week and I'm still not sick of it. I wished I read the book before I watched the movie, but I never knew that such an amazing story existed until I watched the movie. I really like all the transitions of each scenes and the background music, the story is very unique and interesting. It's like another Harry Potter I guess in a way since it's very popular and I know many fans out there. The actor was just beautiful, Robert Pattinson did an amzing jov playing a role as a vampire. It suited him well, however, I thought the girl from the movie didn't act as good as I expected. I am planning to buy the other two series, and I can't wait till the next part comes out which on December, 9 , 2009. I really liked the theme of the movie and the message that it was trying to send. Obvoiusly the theme is love, but the way they showed it instead of just saying how much Edward loved Bella which was very creative. I really liked the type of scenery they had with the whole forest and a small city with only 3000 people. I just loved everything about it!

Love is a cool drink of water

Love is a cool drink of water
on a hot summer day
refreshing as the day gets hotter
in a pleasurable way

Love is impossible to explain
it's something you can only feel
if there is love, there is pain
and it takes a long time to heal

Love is great and unforgettable
it can be taken away or remain forever
love has its own big bubble
but indeed it is beautiful however

Some say love is happiness
some say love is painful
its an experience nevertheless
for everyone, it's never full

love has it's ups and downs
leaving you with memories
full of smiles and frowns
just accept it with ease

It's okay to make mistakes
that's the only way to learn
courage is all that it takes
to fix and lessons to earn

So give out all your love
as much as you can
which we are all capable of
and never be afraid to love again

Something I'd like to share

Endless

Every morning I wake up
I rub my eyes and look up
My mind clears and I come to see
That nothing has changed, it is as same as could be
It seems like an endless sameness
going on and on
Nothing changes and everything is wrong
I pray after the work of a whole day
as my eyes closes and I go off to sleep
that may tomorrow be a surprise
something happen
fantastic and nice
but the tomorrow that I wish of never comes
It is as dreary as this poem sounds
on and on, same as same
endless and meaningless
O WHAT A SHAME!

My Mother :)

While in class I was deciding who my hero should be, I thought of some qualities that I believe a hero should have. I believe a hero should have a good personality, a positive attitude, goals, strength, someone who is responsible, someone who is always there for me etc. My mother has all these qualities and so much more. My mothers name is Mirjana Ivkovic. She’s a food service worker and she works in an old folks home, and she’s also my super hero. The first quality that a hero should have is a good personality, someone who is really kind, understanding, has a great sense of humor, someone that’s always there to listen and give advice if needed etc. The next quality I think a hero should have is a positive attitude. If a person has a positive attitude then they can get far in life, because the way they act towards people has an affect later on in life, also how people behave in front of other people and how you treat other people has a huge affect on you later on. With a positive a positive attitude you can accomplish anything. My mother can come home from the worst day at work and still manage to have a good attitude. She will never take out her anger on me or anyone else I know of. She also always has a positive outlook on things. The third quality I think a hero should have is kindness. My mother has shown me so much kindness, more than I could have hoped for. My mother has always been here for me, no matter what. If I did something bad or if I got into any trouble, I know I could always come to her and she will try to help me out, but if the situation is really bad, I know she might ground me, and probably not talk to me for a few days, but at least I will know she will always love me no matter what.

Buddhism & Hinduism

I am half Hindu and half Buddhist, but I never really understood any of the religions until I paid close attention to it. Buddha was himself a philosopher, now people say so Buddhism is just a philosophy? That's what sort of makes me angry because the word philosophy comes from two words phile, which means "love" and sophia which means "wisdom". So philosophy is the love of wisdom or love and wisdom, both meanings describing Buddhism perfectly. Buddhism teachers that we should try to develop our intellectual ability to the fullest so that we can understand clearly. It also teaches us to develop love and kindness so that we can be like a true friend to all beings. So buddhism is a philosophy but not just a philosophy. It is the supreme philosopy. Anyways so that's that so then after learning a lot about Buddhism i decided to do some research on my other half Hinduism.
Whenever I asked my mom, she would just say "oh just ask your grand mother, it's a very old religion". So now let me make this clear Indian didn't even come up with the word "Hindu". Before proceeding further, let us get the meaning of the word ‘Hindu’ and the term ‘Hinduism’ clarified. We the (east) Indians, Pakistanis and Sri Lankans from the Indian subcontinent know that the subcontinent’s original name was Jambudweep and also Bharatvarsha or simply Bharat. The inhabitants of Bharat are Bharatiya.Thousands of years ago, the outsiders gave our ancestors the name Hindu. They called the subcontinent Hindustan (place of Hindus) and also Indo or India. For them, the faiths and practices of the ‘Hindus’ was Hinduism.

Thus the word ‘Hindu’ or ‘Hinduism’ is not a word originated in India. What the outsiders call ‘Hinduism’ is ‘Sanatan’ Dharma to us, as explained by Hindu pundits. ‘Dharma’ word has no equivalent in English or any non-Indian language. Similarly, the word ‘Religion’ has no equivalent in our Sanskrit based languages. The meaning of the word ‘Dharma’ has been accepted as ‘Religion’ and vice versa for mere convenience.

However, I personally do not believe in God or for that matter any institutionalized religion and hence would not like to delve into that area here, but at the same time would like to leave a question into the believers mind, that if you are not able to find answer to any riddles or mystery of life and nature, try to find rationale answer by acquiring more knowledge available on the subject, or from a knowledgeable person rather than leaving it to the hands of God, fate, destiny, karma or religious rites and rituals, dictats of the religious priests and pundits and so on so forth.

Albert Edison Austin

Albert Austin was a very successful man and had almost everything he needed. The only wish he ever had was to become a psychologist since he loved that course. He eventually became the president of the Dominion Bank. He was a very busy man, he wasn't able to spend too much time with his wife and the two daughters and son he had. His wife and him would get into arguments almost every night after he'd come home from work. He was closer to his father than his mom, since his father and him had similar taste such as playing golf. They would go to play golf every weekend or find time to do so. He loved the area he lived in because it was in the heart of the city, near downtown area. He sure made a lot of money and was wealth since he later on became the president of Consumer's gas company and Canada Northwest land. He would get frustrated whenever he came home because of all the arguments and problems he had to face with his wife. He tried to treat everyone nice, he would never create a fight as he was very intelligent with the study of mind. He knew what to ignore and what's the best but he never realized how much his family needed his dedication as well. He later on started spending time on to discover something new which was to introduce advocate electric overhead trolley cards.

Toronto Archives was amazing ! :)

I don't remember the last time I actually went on a nice trip, maybe back in grade 9 to Center Islands. But this trip was just amazing on such a nice weather too! I love this course even more now. It was really interesting how Toronto Archives is so well organized with all the history and files from Toronto. Usually I'm not interested in history, but I think I definitely changed my mind today. I never knew finding out about a person that existed in the 1920's can be so fun. It was really interesting to find out what Albert Austin's grades were and how his life was just by looking at some documents. Well as Ms. Cat told us to write a blog on the character, so here it goes :)

Albert Edison Austin studied in the faculty of arts in Univerity of Toronto. His weaknesses in highschool were on Math, French, and Geology but he was very good at Psychology and history. He enjoyed playing golf and his religion was "medhodist". He got a job in the Board of Directors in the Dominion Bank. He was quite tall and had an average body. He got married and has a family of one son, two daughters and they lived on the east side of Spadina road in Toronto. He was very rich because of the number of occupations he had which was ten to be exact. He was not only the president of the Dominion Bank but also Consumer's gas company and Canada Northwest land. He was a very creative man and introduced advocate electric overhead trolley cards in Canada.

Co-op experience

I did Co-op last year at Crescent Town Elementary School as a Teacher’s assistant and I actually miss it a lot. The most significant part of my Cooperative Education placement that I thought I learnt and would have the biggest impact on me was learning to communicate with the kids. By communicating, I mean not only teaching them lessons but also getting to know different types of perspective they have, how they act on certain conditions and how to handle them by communicating in a certain way. It will definitely help me in the future in the teaching field, because it helped me to become confident of what i was teaching them or gave instructions to and I am not as shy anymore compared to how i used to be before I started working in this placement. I definitely gained lots of skills, but the most important ones I think I gained would be communication, problem solving, and motivational skills. I only learnt how to solve problems when I got to know all of the students and what they like or dislike. Problem solving can be anything, if two kids are fighting over a game to play, I would have to come up with a decision where they could both play it fairly and that way none of them would feel as if they are being neglected. Last but not least being motive and being able to keep the children intellectually stimulated is important. I have seen from what my supervisor does to keep them stimulated all the time, such as games, concepts of phonics, reading, vocabulary, music, science, well as assisting in the development of their social skills through fun activities in small groups. As i got to see how it all works to keep them intellectually stimulated, I began to also use films, books, music, games, artwork, computers and other tools to teach kindergarten children basic skills. Children learn through interactive activities such as rhyming games, storytelling and acting games. So far, I know for a fact that handling bunch of children especially the ages of 4 to 5 all by your self is very hard. Therefore I would still like to be a teacher but for a higher grade where it’s more of teaching to the class than hands on and activities. If I have no assistant in for my career, personally I don’t think I would be able to handle so many responsibilities with no extra support. My supervisor gets lots of help not only from me, but also other helpers in the class so it is a bit easier for her to handle. As a result of my placement I am very excited to put additional experience in my exit resume.

Interesting weekend

I had a very interesting weekend with some good and sad news. Good news is that I got go to a dinner and a scary movie (The Haunting of Moley Heartley). I thought the movie would be scary, but it had a very confusing ending and was somewhat dumb. So that was my halloween on friday and then I went to my bestfriend's house for a sleep over. We got scared everytime we heard screeching sounds and just giggle under the blanket. Saturday, my dad left to India so it was kinda depressing but again I'm glad he will spending time with his parents! Today I didn't even touch my school bag and having another sleep over with another friend. Hopefully I'll do well in the upcoming tests and oh my gawsh midterm marks tommorow! =/ I seriuosly hope I get accepted in university this year. Also another good news is that time changed, meaning extra hour of sleep woohooo!
